Winter Greetings

Hauling boxes up the stairs
Eager children shed their cares
We sing along to a familiar tune
Decorating under the bright full moon
The sparkling tree is such a joy
Thinking back to when you were a boy
Broken ornaments get some glue
Passed on from Gran and now to you
Reminded of years now passed
Small trinkets help them memories last
Popcorn delicately strung along
Another favorite Christmas song
Flour and sugar makes cookies and more
The season’s treats are now in store
Smell of cinnamon fills the air
Peace on Earth please hear our prayer
Stirring carefully not too hot
Pour the sticky mess out of the pot
A fine sprinkling of snow white dust
Delicately rolling out the crust
Gingerbread plans made and baked
The year’s most complicated cake
Lists are made and wishes sent
Dreams of everything came and went
Waiting for the ice to form
Holing out during a storm
Hot chocolate packed into mugs
Cold cheek kisses and mitten hugs
Skating outdoors on frozen ponds
Snowflakes made with magic wands
Gifts and favors for our friends
A cherished thought not what she spends
Time for reunion and reflection
Choosing the next year’s direction
A Happy Solstice to you all
May your tree stand straight and tall
