Well as it turns out I love eggnog. Who knew? My son is a fan and so as the dutiful mother I searched the internet and made him some because there was no way I was going to buy a carton of the stuff. Apparently it’s really easy and my raw milkshake is really eggnog…
Once you have started eating seasonally you start to have a whole new relationship and appreciation for lettuce. What once may have been taken for granted becomes an almost holy experience when you go without it for the better part of the year. We eat cherries for about a week while they are in season but other than that the only cherries we enjoy are of the dehydrated variety. They are kind of like raisins but slightly bigger and great in kids lunches. Each year I dehydrate about 20 racks of cherries, I’m not sure what that is in lbs but I would guess 10-20lbs of cherries.
June sees the return of many of my vegetable favorites baby carrots, beets & potatoes first come out of the ground this month. Green onions can be found in abundance with radishes along side them. If you have had a warm enough spring peas make their first appearance at markets sometime this month and are…
It’s here, it’s here!!! It must be May. That little head poking out of the ground. That spring time delicacy that has been ruined by Mexican imports is here and in Armstrong near where I live it is abundant. Asparagus. Acres and acres of it grow in the hills near where I live, not wild…
